Key Verse:
“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”
— Galatians 5:16
Rooted Truth:
Victory over the flesh is not achieved by willpower—but by walking in the Spirit.
Faith Story:
Every believer knows the tension. The desire to do what is right—and the pull toward what is not.
Paul speaks openly about this struggle. The flesh represents the part of us that leans toward sin, self, and independence from God. It is not passive—it pulls, persuades, and presses for control.
Many try to overcome the flesh through effort alone.
-Trying harder.
-Setting stricter boundaries.
-Relying on discipline alone.
While those things have value, they are not the source of victory. Paul does not say, “Fight the flesh harder.” He says, “Walk in the Spirit.”
This is the shift.
Victory is not found in focusing on the flesh—it is found in focusing on the Spirit. The more we walk in the Spirit, the less room the flesh has to operate. When your mind is filled with truth, temptation loses its voice. When your heart is engaged in prayer, distractions lose their grip. When your life is aligned with the Spirit, the desires of the flesh begin to weaken.
This does not mean the struggle disappears. But it means the power dynamic changes.
You are no longer fighting for victory—you are walking in it.
The Spirit within you is stronger than the pull around you. And each step of obedience strengthens that reality.
Scripture for Deeper Roots:
Romans 8:13 – “If ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body…”
Galatians 5:24 – “They that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh…”
Colossians 3:5 – “Mortify therefore your members…”
Daily Practice:
When temptation arises today, do not focus on resisting it alone.
Redirect your attention immediately toward God—through prayer and Scripture.
Daily Prayer:
Holy Spirit, I cannot overcome the flesh on my own. Strengthen me to walk in step with You. Help me turn quickly from temptation and toward Your presence.
Amen.
Deep Reflection:
• Where do you feel the strongest pull of the flesh right now?
• How have you been trying to fight it in your own strength?
• What would it look like to walk in the Spirit in that area today?
