Key Verse:
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
— John 14:15
Rooted Truth:
Obedience is not the price of loving God—
it is the proof of loving God.
Faith Story:
When Jesus spoke the words “If ye love me, keep my commandments,” He wasn’t clutching for control.
He wasn’t demanding cold compliance.
He was revealing the nature of true devotion.
Love expresses itself in obedience.
Not because obedience earns God’s favor—
but because obedience flows from a heart that treasures God above all else.
Consider Abraham.
When God asked him to sacrifice Isaac, the son he loved, Abraham obeyed—not because he understood, but because he trusted.
At the altar, God didn’t say,
“I see that you obey.”
He said,
“Now I know that thou fearest God…” (Genesis 22:12)
Obedience reveals what we truly value.
A heart that loves God will always choose His voice over its own desires.
His will over comfort.
His truth over culture.
His ways over our ways.
Obedience isn’t heavy when love is deep.
It becomes a joy, a privilege, a natural overflow of a heart aligned with His.
Scripture for Deeper Roots:
1 John 5:3 – “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”
Psalm 40:8 – “I delight to do thy will, O my God…”
John 15:10 – “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love…”
Daily Practice:
Ask God to highlight one area of delayed obedience in your life—a step He has asked you to take, but you have been hesitant about.
Commit today to obey Him fully and joyfully.
Daily Prayer:
Lord, help me to obey You out of love, not obligation.
Align my desires with Yours,
and teach me to walk joyfully in Your commands.
Let my obedience be the overflow of a heart that delights in You.
Amen.
Deep Reflection:
• What is one area where God is calling you to obedience right now?
• Does obedience feel like a burden or a joy—and why?
• How does remembering God’s love help you obey Him with confidence?
