Key Verse:
“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet,
and when thou hast shut thy door,
pray to thy Father which is in secret;
and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”
— Matthew 6:6
Rooted Truth:
The truest love for God is cultivated not in public moments of worship, but in the private place of communion with Him.
Faith Story:
Leonard Ravenhill once wrote,
“A man is no greater than his prayer life.”
Not the public prayers.
Not the prayers at church.
But the prayers in the secret place.
Jesus, who was the very Son of God, withdrew often to lonely places to pray (Luke 5:16).
Before major decisions, before miracles, before the cross—
He went to the Father in private fellowship.
Why?
Because love grows in secret.
Because devotion deepens where no one applauds.
Because the fire of the heart is tended away from the crowd.
When we meet with God privately—without performance, without distraction, without an audience—
we love Him for Him, not for what He gives.
That’s where love becomes pure.
That’s where love becomes strong.
That’s where hearts become His entirely.
Loving God with all your heart begins where the door shuts and His presence fills the room.
Scripture for Deeper Roots:
Psalm 91:1 – “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High…”
Matthew 14:23 – “He went up into a mountain apart to pray…”
Psalm 27:8 – “When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.”
Daily Practice:
Find a quiet place today—your car, a closet, a quiet corner, a lunch break—and spend 5–10 minutes alone with God.
No requests.
No hurry.
Just love poured out in His presence.
Daily Prayer:
Lord, draw me into the secret place.
Teach me to love You when no one sees,
to seek Your face for the joy of knowing You,
and to find my greatest treasure in Your presence alone.
Amen.
Deep Reflection:
• How much of your relationship with God is built in the secret place?
• What distractions tend to keep you from private fellowship with Him?
• How can you carve out a consistent secret-place rhythm this week?
