Key Verse:
“Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.”
— Romans 5:3–4
Rooted Truth:
God often uses trials to deepen our hope. Suffering isn’t the end—it’s a forge where faith is refined.
Faith Story:
Corrie ten Boom, a Dutch Christian who helped Jews escape the Nazis during World War II, was arrested and sent to a concentration camp. She endured unimaginable suffering. Yet even in those darkest days, she clung to Christ. After the war, she wrote:
“There is no pit so deep, that God’s love is not deeper still.”
Corrie saw that even in suffering, God was present—and that hope was not extinguished but made stronger in the fire of affliction. Her story reminds us that the trials we walk through today may become the testimonies that strengthen others tomorrow.
Scripture for Deeper Roots:
2 Corinthians 4:17 – “For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.”
1 Peter 5:10 – “And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace… will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”
James 1:2–4 – “Count it all joy… when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.”
Daily Practice:
Think back on a hardship you’ve faced. What fruit did it eventually produce in your life? Thank God for how He used it. If you’re currently suffering, ask Him to show you how He might be growing hope through it.
Daily Prayer:
Lord, I don’t always understand the pain I face, but I trust that You are using it to shape me. Strengthen me in the fire, and refine my faith. Let suffering build endurance, and let endurance give rise to unshakable hope. Amen.
Deep Reflection:
How have your hardest seasons deepened your relationship with God?
What might it mean to “rejoice in suffering”?
Who in your life needs to hear how God met you in a time of pain?
