Tuesday, June 10, 2025–Hope In The Waiting—When God Seems Silent

Key Verse:

“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”

— Zephaniah 3:17

Rooted Truth:

God’s silence is not His absence. In the quiet, He is still working—and still loving you.

Faith Story:

Missionary and author Elisabeth Elliot, who lost her husband Jim Elliot to spearing by the very tribe he was trying to reach with the Gospel, once wrote:

“God is God. Because He is God, He is worthy of my trust and obedience. I will find rest nowhere but in His holy will, a will that is unspeakably beyond my largest notions of what He is up to.”

After Jim’s death, Elisabeth chose to return to the same tribe that killed him. In the years that followed, many from that tribe gave their lives to Christ. Her life became a testimony to trusting God even when He seems silent, even when the cost is high. She believed that in the waiting and the pain, God was still working.

Scripture for Deeper Roots:

Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Isaiah 45:15 – “Truly, you are a God who hides himself, O God of Israel, the Savior.”

Job 23:8–10 – “Behold, I go forward, but he is not there… But he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold.”

Daily Practice:

Take five minutes today to write down what you’re waiting on God for. Beside each one, write a truth you know about His character (faithful, loving, wise, etc.). Let those truths anchor your heart in the silence.

Daily Prayer:

Father, even when I can’t hear You, I believe You are near. Strengthen my faith when I feel forgotten. Teach me to trust Your heart even when I cannot trace Your hand. Quiet my anxious thoughts with Your love. Amen.

Deep Reflection:

Have you ever confused God’s silence with His absence?

What might God be doing in you or around you while you wait?

How can you stay grounded in His truth even when you don’t feel His presence?
